Rev. Lois Ann Sorensen
Our "kids ministry" is to encourage children and teens to fully engage in worship and other aspects of Christian community.
During worship, we expect to see (and, if in person, hear) children and teens. Online, "seeing" them means we want their parent or guardian to help them send a comment (at least their name, so we can mention them in a prayer). In-person, do not be surprised if our pastor asks a younger child to participate in an age-appropriate manner, such as handing-out bulletins. An older child or teen might be asked to serve as Acolyte (candle lighter), Crucifer (cross carrier), or other worship assistant role (usher, video camera operator, communion cleanup, etc.). Anyone who can read scripture aloud is also welcome to be a lector (reader); they just need to use the applicable sign-up binder in the narthex (lobby) to pick a date. Anyone who would like to offer a vocal solo or instrumental music during worship should have their parent/guardian contact our director of music.
DOES YOUR LITTLE ONE "GET ANTSY" DURING WORSHIP?
Feel free use the front row (it often helps if they can see and hear better) or bring their favorite books and quiet toys (to keep them occupied). Also, if need be, you can still hear and see the service if you decide to escort them to our narthex (lobby).
IS YOUR CHILD OR TEEN READY FOR A PARTICULAR FAITH FORMATION STEP?
Since most of our members are "55+" our pastor can work directly with your family to prepare for baptism, first communion, or confirmation (affirmation of baptism) using ELCA-developed educational materials.
